Órgão aprovou recursos para ajudar na conservação e restauração do ecossistema dos pampas gaúchos; cerca de 2,6% do território do Rio Grande do Sul é protegido e os esforços de conservação enfrentam desafios complexos.

O Banco Mundial aprovou nesta terça-feira a concessão de US$ 5 milhões, R$ 9 milhões, para o projeto de biodiversidade do estado brasileiro do Rio Grande do Sul.

Segundo o Banco, os recursos devem ajudar a melhorar a conservação e restauração do ecossistema dos pampas gaúchos, com enfoque na produção rural.

Pampas

O órgão informa que os pampas sustentam nível elevado de biodiversidade e estão entre as áreas globais mais importantes para as aves endêmicas.

São 3 mil espécies de plantas, mais de 60 de mamíferos, 210 de pássaros, 30 de répteis, 20 de anfíbios e 40 de peixes.

O Banco Mundial ressalta que a agricultura, o setor florestal e a pecuária são as atividades econômicas primárias do Rio Grande do Sul e que esses setores se espalham por habitats naturais e regiões com meio-ambiente frágil.

O Banco revela que cerca de 2,6% do território do estado é protegido e que os esforços de conservação enfrentam desafios complexos.

O diretor do Banco Mundial para o Brasil, Makhtar Diop, disse que o projeto gaúcho é um ótimo exemplo de como ações locais podem ser essenciais para uma perspectiva global.

O programa também irá alavancar recursos estaduais, apoiar incentivos de desenvolvimento econômico e promover a participação do setor privado.
