Ambientalistas defendem lei de preservação para cerrado

A criação de unidades de conservação no cerrado pode ser insuficiente para conter o desmatamento caso não haja uma lei federal específica de proteção do bioma, como já existe para a mata atlântica. A opinião é de ambientalistas ouvidos na sexta-feira (11) pela reportagem para comentar as medidas previstas no Plano de Ação para Prevenção e Controle do Desmatamento e das Queimadas. O plano é parte das ações anunciadas anteontem pelo Ministério do Meio Ambiente para tentar conter a devastação no cerrado, que perdeu 48,2% de sua cobertura original, ou seja, quase metade dos 2 milhões de km² do bioma. Em 2002, o total desmatado era de 41,9% da área original. Para ambientalistas, a criação de unidades de conservação (parques e reservas) no cerrado, como prevê o governo no plano, não será suficiente para garantir a proteção da vegetação remanescente. No caso da mata atlântica, por exemplo, a lei, aprovada em 2006, determina que o corte de vegetação primária e secundária só pode ocorrer em casos excepcionais, como para realizar projetos de utilidade pública. Além das 16 unidades de conservação integral, o plano sugere a criação de áreas de uso sustentável e de florestas públicas. No total, a previsão é investir R$ 440,9 milhões no conjunto de ações, dos quais R$ 401 milhões virão dos cofres do Ministério do Meio Ambiente. O diretor de Políticas Públicas do Greenpeace, Sérgio Leitão, diz que o governo também deveria se empenhar na aprovação da Proposta de Emenda Constitucional (PEC) 115/95, que inclui o cerrado e a caatinga como patrimônio nacional. "É preciso dar ao cerrado o mesmo tratamento dado para a Amazônia e a mata atlântica", afirma Leitão. Fonte: Estadão Online
