Pesquisadores de todo mundo se reúnem no semiárido brasileiro

A partir de segunda-feira (16), todas as atenções estarão voltadas para o semiárido. Será aberta oficialmente, no Centro de Convenções do Ceará, em Fortaleza, a Segunda Conferência Internacional sobre Clima, Sustentabilidade e Desenvolvimento em Regiões Semiáridas, ICID +18. O encontro reunirá 2.600 pessoas, entre elas, pesquisadores do desenvolvimento, especialistas em mudanças climáticas, cientistas sociais e decisores políticos de mais de 90 países, até sexta-feira (20).

Da solenidade de abertura, marcada para as 11h, participam o governador do Estado do Ceará, Cid Gomes, o secretário executivo do Ministério do Meio Ambiente, José Machado, o secretario executivo do Ministério de Ciência e Tecnologia, Luiz Antônio Elias, o secretário executivo da Convenção das Nações Unidas de Combate à Desertificação (UNCCD), Luc Gnacadja, a presidente do Centro de Gestão e Estudos Estratégicos, Lúcia Melo, o diretor do Banco Mundial, Makhtar Diop, o diretor geral do Instituto de Pesquisa para o Desenvolvimento (IRD), Michael Laurent, os presidentes do Banco do Nordeste, Roberto Smith, da Federação das Industrias do Estado do Ceará (FIEC), Roberto Macedo, e da Agência Nacional de Águas (ANA), Vicente Andreo, o diretor da ICID+18, Antônio Magalhães, e outras autoridades nacionais e internacionais.

Na ocasião, o secretário executivo da UNCCD, Luc Gnacadja, lançará mundialmente a Década da ONU sobre Desertos e de Combate à Desertificação.

De acordo com o diretor da Conferência, Antônio Rocha Magalhães, quatro mensagens fundamentais norteiam as atividades da ICID: a oportunidade de transformar as negociações globais de Copenhagen em resultados práticos de desenvolvimento, de elaborar diretrizes para a aplicação de ações de mitigação, adaptação, financiamento e preservação a fim de reduzir a vulnerabilidade nas regiões semiáridas, de reunir pela primeira vez, em um evento de climático, uma grande quantidade de cientistas sociais para analisar os impactos do aquecimento global nas vidas das milhares de pessoas que vivem em aéreas de risco de desertificação, e finalmente, de influenciar e subsidiar a realização da Rio +20, no Rio de Janeiro, em 2012.

A ICID + 18 é organizada pelo Centro de Gestão e Estudos Estratégicos (CGEE) – em parceria com os ministérios do Meio Ambiente e da Ciência e Tecnologia, o governo do Ceará e outras entidades governamentais e de pesquisa nacionais e internacionais.
