Secretário do MMA apresenta ações contra desertificação a país africano

O secretário de Extrativismo e Desenvolvimento Rural Sustentável do Ministério do Meio Ambiente, Egon Krakhecke, apresentou, nesta quinta-feira (19), em Fortaleza (CE), iniciativas brasileiras no combate à desertificação ao ministro de Recursos Hídricos de Níger, Kaza Abdou. A reunião serviu para troca de experiências e possíveis cooperações entre os dois países no combate à desertificação.

O encontro aconteceu durante a Segunda Conferência Internacional: Clima, Sustentabilidade e Desenvolvimento em Regiões Semiáridas (Icid 2010). Krakhecke contou que o foco das ações no Brasil está na convivência no semiárido. Para isso, já foram instaladas 300 mil cisternas no semiárido com intuito de abastecer a população no período de seca.

Ele explicou que o projeto é executado pela própria sociedade civil, com apoio do governo. Com um sistema de calhas em cima das casas, a água da chuva é levada para uma cisterna com capacidade de captar 16 mil litros. Este projeto garante água para sobrevivência das famílias da região. O programa atende às comunidades mais isoladas do semiárido.

O combate ao desmatamento foi outro ponto levantado pelo secretário como medida de luta contra a desertificação. Ele contou que o Brasil faz o monitoramento dos biomas para impedir a expansão da derrubada das florestas. A Caatinga, bioma mais afetado pela desertificação, já perdeu 45% de sua vegetação em consequência do desmatamento.

O diretor da Agência Nacional de Águas, Bruno Pagnoccheschi, disse que o Brasil tem
parceria com a Comissão de Países de Língua Portuguesa. Em Moçambique, são desenvolvidas ações de abastecimento de água para a população do campo e de monitoramento. “É promissor ampliar isso a outros países africanos”,destacou.

O ministro de Níger contou que o país, que possui 77% de sua área desertificada, sofre com os grandes períodos de seca e com as chuvas, que devastam a região. “Depois da seca, as chuvas são violentas, levam animais, inundam e destroem plantações, levando as sementes plantadas”, lamenta.

Ao finalizar a reunir, o ministro prometeu uma visita ao Ministério do Meio Ambiente, em Brasília, para conhecer mais ações e fechar cooperações para reduzir os problemas da desertificação no seu país.
