Encontrado esqueleto coberto com folhas de ouro em tumba grega

Arqueologistas gregos localizaram uma esqueleto antigo, todo coberto com folhas de ouro, em uma tumba na ilha de Creta, na antiga cidade de Apolônia. A descoberta foi anunciada nesta terça-feira (28).

O professor de arqueologia Nicholas Stampolidis e equipe disseram que encontram mais de 3.000 folhas de ouro datados do século 7 a.C – o cemitério tem fornecido artefatos antigos surpreendentes nos últimos anos.

Os finos ornamentos em ouro possuem de um a quatro centímetros cada e estavam costurados no que pode ser tanto uma vestimenta de luxo quanto uma mortalha envolvida no corpo de uma mulher.

“Toda a extensão da tumba estava coberta com pequenos pedaços de ouro”, disse Stampolidis à Associated Press.

Segundo os achados, a mulher deveria pertencer a uma classe social elevada ou religiosa. Ela foi enterrada junto a um outro esqueleto dentro de contêiner, fechado com uma pedra pesando mais de 500 kg e escondido atrás de uma parede falsa, provavelmente para confundir ladrões de tumbas.

O local também continha uma tigela de cobre, frascos de perfume importado do Egito, Síria ou Palestina, centenas de âmbar e um pendente de ouro, entre outros objetos.

Stampolidis, da Universidade de Creta, trabalha no sítio arqueológico de Apolônia há pelo menos 25 anos. As ruínas ficam a noroeste de Ida, monte onde Zeus teria nascido na mitologia grega.
