Pinturas rupestres da Serra da Capivara são scaneadas em 3D

As pinturas rupestres da Serra da Capivara (PI) resistiram a milênios de sol e chuva, mas há sempre o risco de que o tempo ou o descuido as apague. Para evitar isso, pesquisadores desenvolveram uma tecnologia nova para registrá-las em 3D.

O grupo de cientistas, da Fundação Museu do Homem Americano e da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, acoplou um equipamento fotográfico de altíssima resolução a um scanner a laser, o que permite criar em computador um retrato fidedigno e tridimensional da pintura.

A ideia é inovadora, já que restaurar uma pintura nessas condições, como se faz com quadros de um museu, é um procedimento temerário. O máximo que se poderia fazer é criar condições adequadas para diminuir seu ritmo de degradação. Agora, as imagens estão mais perto da imortalidade, pode-se dizer.

VOLUME
O projeto, que teve financiamento do MCT (Ministério de Ciência e Tecnologia), escaneou mais de 3.000 figuras rupestres no parque nacional nordestino. É o maior volume já documentado com esse tipo de tecnologia no mundo.
"Esse é o recurso técnico mais preciso que existe no momento. E, como a pintura original será destruída cedo ou tarde, o que podemos fazer é multiplicar esse tipo de levantamento", diz a pesquisadora Anne-Marie Pessis, que coordena o projeto.

ÚLTIMA GERAÇÃO
O scanner a laser é um equipamento utilizado com frequência em estudos topográficos. Acoplado a um avião, ele faz a varredura de determinado terreno e cria um modelo da superfície com precisão milimétrica. No caso do parque, ele foi apontado para uma parede.

O papel da câmera digital era capturar as cores e contornos da pintura. Os dois registros foram unidos por um programa de computador, que criou os modelos 3D.

Além da melhor resolução, o processo tem evidentes vantagens em relação à fotografia tradicional. Como as pinturas foram feitas em superfícies irregulares- as paredes das cavernas-, uma foto bidimensional faz com que seu formato fique bastante distorcido.

"O homem pré-histórico criava soluções diferentes de pintura de acordo com a superfície", diz Maria Lúcia Pardi, arqueóloga do Iphan.

O arquivo digital tem outra utilidade além da preservação. Permite fazer réplicas idênticas ao sítio arqueológico original. Isso já acontece com as grutas de Lascaux, na França, e Altamira, na Espanha. Elas foram fechadas à visitação, e são suas réplicas que hoje ficam abertas aos turistas interessados.

"Em ambos os casos, as pinturas tiveram de ser reproduzidas à mão. Com o nosso sistema, é possível fazer tudo mecanicamente e com muito mais precisão", diz Anne-Marie Pessis.

A Serra da Capivara reúne os sítios de pintura rupestre mais importantes do Brasil, alguns dos mais antigos do mundo.
O projeto, que custou R$ 300 mil e durou quatro anos, documentou as pinturas de apenas seis sítios arqueológicos de um total de 1.200 existentes na região.
