Países do Cone Sul discutem pecuária sustentável

Discutir políticas de fomento ao desenvolvimento da pecuária sustentável nos países do Cone Sul – Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Paraguai e Uruguai – é o objetivo da 11ª reunião da Comissão de Desenvolvimento Pecuário para América Latina e Caribe (Codegalac), conselho ligado à Organização das Nações Unidas para Agricultura e Alimentação (FAO). O secretário de Desenvolvimento Agropecuário e Cooperativismo do Ministério da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento (Mapa), Márcio Portocarrero, representa o governo brasileiro no encontro, que será de 16 a 18 de novembro, no Ministério da Agricultura da Argentina, em Buenos Aires.

Ações de manejo responsável do setor pecuário na América Latina, a redução do impacto ambiental, a recuperação de áreas e o fortalecimento da saúde animal e da pecuária sustentável são alguns dos pontos que serão discutidos na reunião. Para o secretário, também é preocupação da comissão o impacto da atividade pecuária no meio ambiente. “Os efeitos das mudanças climáticas e da degradação de recursos naturais são prioridades na pauta de debates”, destaca.

No Brasil, o recém-lançado Programa Agricultura de Baixo Carbono (ABC) prevê investimentos de R$ 2 bilhões na adoção de práticas sustentáveis no campo, como o plantio direto, que dispensa o revolvimento do solo com grades e arados, com a semeadura direta na palha da cultura da safra anterior. Esse procedimento preserva os nutrientes do solo e aumenta a produtividade da lavoura. Com o ABC, o Ministério da Agricultura pretende ampliar, em dez anos, a área atual com uso da técnica em oito milhões de hectares, passando de 25 milhões para 33 milhões de hectares.

Segundo Portocarrero, o setor pecuário contribui para a segurança alimentar e redução da pobreza. “Políticas públicas que beneficiem produtores familiares, assistência técnica, capacitação e acesso a novos mercados são fundamentais para o desenvolvimento do setor”, diz. Ele informa ainda que a reunião resultará em documento com as recomendações dos países membros e a possibilidade de iniciativas conjuntas para discussão nos próximos encontros.
