Seis espécies de mamíferos dotados de casco correm risco de extinção no Brasil

A constatação foi feita durante oficina de avaliação do estado de conservação dos ungulados, promovida pelo Cenap-ICMBio-Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade.

Seis espécies de ungulados (mamíferos com casco) estão vulneráveis à extinção (VU) no Brasil, três apresentam dados insuficientes para avaliação (DD) e duas estão em situação não preocupante (LC). A constatação foi feita por estudiosos do Centro Nacional de Pesquisa e Conservação dos Predadores (Cenap), do Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade (ICMBio), e do Grupo de Especialistas em Conservação e Reprodução (CBSG) da União Internacional para a Conservação da Natureza (IUCN), durante oficina realizada na sede da Academia Nacional de Biodiversidade (Acadebio), em Iperó (SP).

Os cervídeos, antas e porcos-do-mato do Brasil, pertencentes às ordens Perissodactyla e Artiodactyla, conhecidos como ungulados, ou mamíferos dotados de cascos, têm ciclos de vida longos, demoram anos para começar a se reproduzir, passam muito tempo em gestação e alguns vivem em grupos facilmente reconhecíveis. Eles estão ainda entre as espécies mais populares como alvo de caça, ou cinegéticas. Tudo isso contribui para um quadro que aponta para a extinção, caso nada seja feito imediatamente.

BIOMAS – A oficina para avaliação do estado de conservação das espécies de ungulados do Brasil, que ocorreu em novembro, foi inovadora. Avaliações específicas, por bioma, para antas e porcos-do mato, possibilitaram traçar um quadro detalhado e mais realista da situação, uma vez que em cada um dos biomas ocorrem diferenças extremas no estado de fragmentação do habitat, magnitude das pressões antrópicas (do homem) e tamanhos populacionais das espécies.

As avaliações ainda passarão por uma etapa de revisão científica para serem publicadas na revista eletrônica do ICMBio, “Biodiversidade Brasileira”. O trabalho foi conduzido pelos coordenadores de táxon José Maurício Barbanti Duarte (Nupecce/Unesp), Emília Patrícia Medici (IUCN/Tapir Specialist Group), Alexine Keuroghlian (WCS Brasil/IUCN Peccary Specialist Group) e Arnaud Léonard Jean Desbiez (Royal Society of Scotland/IUCN Peccary Specialist Group/ IUCN CBSG Rede Brasil) e pela analista ambiental do Cenap/ICMBio Beatriz de Mello Beisiegel.

Além deles, participaram do trabalho 18 especialistas de outras instituições, como UFPR, UFMT, UFPE, Ufez, Inpa, IPE, Instituto Biotrópicos, Projeto Carnívoros do Iguaçu, Programa de Conservação dos Mamíferos do Cerrado, Fiocruz e Michelin.
