Maricá, na região metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro, quer transformar áreas verdes em unidades de conservação. Um projeto de lei pode garantir a preservação das matas. Com isso, o município ganharia mais dinheiro do Governo Federal. A ideia também é estimular o turismo.

Areias Claras tem 46 quilômetros de litoral. As praias são as principais atrações de Maricá, mas o município da costa do sol fluminense pretende ser reconhecido também pelas matas preservadas. “Nós vamos também conseguir fazer o corredor ecológico do leste fluminense, ligando Niterói a Cabo Frio”, contou Débora Dias, subsecretária de meio ambiente de Maricá.

Durante cinco meses um grupo de biólogos e geólogos percorreu a Serra de Maricá e fez um levantamento das condições da Mata Atlântica. Um estudo técnico está pronto e concluiu: na área de 120 quilômetros quadrados, devem ser criadas unidades de conservação ambiental. “A gente encontrou espécies de animais que não sabíamos que existia aqui, inclusive cerca de 20 delas estão na lista oficial do Ibama como espécies ameaçadas de extinção”, afirmou Tiago de Paula, gestor ambiental.

Boa parte do espaço considerado refúgio de vida silvestre é particular, mas os proprietários de terra não vão sofrer com novas restrições. A propriedade de Manoel Carlos da Silva tem quase cinco hectares e ocupa uma área que pode se tornar unidade de conservação. O produtor foi resistente a unidade, mas já percebe os benefícios que vão além do lucro financeiro. “Na minha propriedade existem 10 nascentes de água mineral natural, então não queremos queimadas, desmatamentos ou morte de animais por aqui”.

A prefeitura de Maricá vai enviar à Câmara de Vereadores um projeto de lei que cria as unidades de conservação. Se aprovado, quase metade do território do município passa a ser protegido e a arrecadação também aumenta. Maricá pode passar a receber R$ 3 milhões por ano de ICMS verde, um subsídio do governo do estado destinado para municípios que investem em preservação ambiental. O valor é 12 vezes maior que o repasse atual. A verba pode também chegar às mãos de proprietários rurais que apóiam o desenvolvimento sustentável.

De um grupo que vive em Espraiado, distrito de Maricá, a localidade se tornou área de conservação há cinco anos. Os moradores da região se adaptaram às leis ambientais de maneira criativa, estimulando o turismo local. Uma vez por mês eles abrem as propriedades para realizar eventos e projetos sempre em harmonia com a natureza. Os visitantes podem conhecer o trabalho de artesãs da comunidade. Elas reaproveitam o material, usam fibras de bananeiras para formar vários objetos de decoração e acessórios. Têm tapetes e almofadas aromatizadas e no galpão rústico, o café colonial com produtos orgânicos feitos pelos próprios moradores. Cada um incentiva como pode. “Veja o pequeno produtor, o dono do sítio, que abre seu estabelecimento com a venda de algum produto dele”, disse a agricultora Regina Sobould.

O projeto chamado "De Portas Abertas" existe há dois anos e é considerado modelo para outras áreas do município. Desenvolvimento, sim, mas sem ameaçar a diversidade natural. “Os outros proprietários que estão reticentes com relação à criação da unidade, eles podem ficar tranquilos que tem como fazer uso sustentável dessa área. Não precisa desmatar, não precisa burlar lei, eles podem conseguir utilização para essa área e vão ter retorno com o turismo rural e ecológico, que é o que a gente quer estimular”, finalizou Débora Dias.
