Pescado será incluido na merenda escolar de 20% dos municípios até 2012

O Ministério da Pesca e Aquicultura quer que o pescado coletado por pescadores artesanais ou criado por aquicultores familiares integre o cardápio da merenda escolar em pelo menos 20% das cidades brasileiras até 2012. Hoje, o governo federal já exige que a merenda contenha, no mínimo, 30% de produtos agrícolas de pequenos produtores familiares.

No entanto, segundo a ministra Ideli Salvatti, a dificuldade para incluir o pescado é maior do que para incluir produtos agrícolas. “Diferentemente do agricultor, que entrega o feijão, o arroz, a batata, a cebola, a abobrinha, sem precisar processar o produto, no caso do pescador é diferente. Tem que tirar a espinha, tem que processar o pescado. Nós não temos como fazer automaticamente a entrada do pescado na merenda escolar”, disse.

Por isso, segundo a ministra, o governo federal está fazendo um levantamento para conhecer os locais que já têm equipamentos suficientes para fazer o beneficiamento do pescado e que se organizam em cooperativas ou associações, a fim de que possam receber o pagamento da prefeitura. “Acredito que, até ano que vem, conseguiremos colocar o pescado na merenda de 20% dos municípios brasileiros”, disse.
