Amazônia e Nordeste terão menos chuva e ficarão mais secas

Diminuição de chuvas na Amazônia e no Nordeste do Brasil é um dos cenários projetados pelo relatório de atividades do Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia para Mudanças Climáticas (INCT-MC), realizadas entre 2009 e 2010.

O relatório já está disponível no site do órgão desde a semana passada, no endereço http://www.ccst.inpe.br/inct/index.php.

Segundo os novos cenários climáticos encontrados no relatório, “as projeções apontam que as áreas do norte do continente, que compreendem a Amazônia e o Nordeste do Brasil, deverão experimentar deficiência de chuvas (com redução de até 40%), enquanto no sudeste da América do Sul, incluindo a bacia Paraná La Plata, as chuvas deverão aumentar cerca de 30%”.

As simulações elaboradas pelos modelos do INCT abrangerão um período de 30 anos com base no cenário atual e um cenário futuro para o período 2071-2100.

A diferença entre o volume de chuvas e a evaporação para o Norte da América é negativa, dizem os cientistas.

Este déficit de água e a redução do escoamento fluvial da Amazônia Oriental e a bacia do São Francisco vão tornar estas regiões suscetíveis a condições mais secas no futuro.

Doenças – O relatório do INCT abrange diferentes áreas que possuem correlação como mudanças climáticas, como saúde humana, urbanização e megacidades, energia e políticas públicas.

Na área de saúde humana, estão sendo realizados estudos para avaliar as variações temporais de variáveis climáticas e doenças.

Os pesquisadores priorizaram a leptospirose, doenças respiratórias e cardiovasculares e a dengue, selecionadas conforme sua prevalência e biomas. Em Manaus, por exemplo, a dengue está associada às doenças transmitidas pela água.

Segundo os estudos, riachos e ocupação recente de áreas explicam a elevada incidência de malária nessa cidade.

“O ritmo de desmatamento e a extensão dos riachos alagáveis podem aumentar consideravelmente durante as próximas décadas devido à variação do nível de água dos rios e as pressões decorrentes do uso da terra”, diz o estudo.

O INCT-MC, criado em 2008 pelo Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia, reúne cientistas de instituições de pesquisa em meio ambiente no Brasil distribuídos em 90 grupos. Ao todo, são aproximadamente 400 participantes.

Os INCTs são financiados pelo Conselho de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) do MCT e pela Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) do Ministério da Educação (MEC) e por agências estaduais de fomento.

Um dos órgãos participantes do grupo é o Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (Inpa).

De acordo com informações da assessoria do Inpe, onde fica a sede do INCT, a principal meta do estudo é fornecer informação científica de alta qualidade necessária para compreender o funcionamento do clima, sua variabilidade e suas mudanças e subsidiar as políticas públicas de mitigação e adaptação em níveis local, nacional e internacional.
