Último dia da Piracema teve apreensão nos rios Parnaíba e Poty

O período da Piracema que compreende o período de desova dos peixes encerrou ontem (16) no Piauí. O Batalhão da Polícia Ambiental (BPA) de Teresina fez uma operação nos rios Poty e Parnaíba e conseguiu flagrar pescadores artesanais em atividade, na ação foram apreendidos equipamentos e mais de 250 metros de redes de pesca.

De acordo com o comandante do BPA, o Cel. Renato Alves, “a operação tinha objetivo principalmente de despertar a conscientização, chamar a atenção dos pescadores para o crime, e fazer com que os pescadores mudem seus comportamentos”, disse.

“O Batalhão comemora o sucesso da operação, pois neste período houve mais divulgação sobre a piracema, os pescadores puderam ser mais informados, e conseqüentemente menos crimes ambientais relacionados à Piracema foram cometidos. A parceria entre todos os órgão fiscalizadores, nas três esferas municipal, estadual e federal foi muito importante, além da ampla divulgação da mídia”, acrescentou o comandante Renato Alves.

A Piracema (do Tupi-guarani: pira = peixe, cema = agitação) é o período em que os peixes nadam contra a correnteza, buscando nas cabeceiras dos rios, ambientes propícios para a reprodução/ onde liberam e fecundam seus óvulos// Nessa viagem de risco, os peixes se agitam ruidosamente na linha d’água, passando por momentos de grandes perigos. Além dos obstáculos naturais, precisam sobrepor a poluição, as barragens e a pesca predatória.
