O rio Parnaíba, na zona sul de Teresina sofre com a poluição

O Rio Parnaíba é um dos principais rios do Piauí e fonte de vida de muitas populações banhadas por ele. Mas tem enfrentado nos últimos anos, graves problemas ambientais, tais como os esgotos domésticos sem tratamento e resíduos industriais lançados diretamente nas suas margens e leitos. Na zona sul de Teresina no bairro Areias e Vila Antarctica o lixo e a poluição do rio dão os tons da degradação que tem causado a contaminação da água, mortandade de peixes e representando risco para a saúde humana.

No cenário, garrafas pets e sacolas plásticas dividem o mesmo espaço com o esgoto escuro que vai correndo rio abaixo e contaminando a água. Para o pescador artesanal Raimundo Nonato da Silva, conhecido na região como Guarda Belo, é um dos pescadores que mais lamenta a degradação do rio Parnaíba, na zona Sul de Teresina. Segundo ele, “o rio está sendo ignorado pelas autoridades faz muito tempo”, afirmou.

“Desde 1985 pesco todos os dias nessa parte do Parnaíba e já faz algum tempo que está cada vez mais difícil pescar aqui, os peixes diminuíram, o mau cheiro é quase insuportável e quase não temos mais espaço porque as vacarias ocupam todo o terreno, há arame farpado até dentro do rio”, desabafou o pescador Raimundo Nonato.

“É a primeira vez em mais de vinte anos que vejo uma equipe de Televisão aqui, essa parte do Parnaíba ninguém se importa, temos graves problemas aqui, é poluição, lixo, esgoto e lixo industrial jogado diretamente no rio e fica por isso mesmo”, desabafou Raimundo Nonato, o Guarda Belo.

O rio Parnaíba, na zona sul de Teresina agonizando aos poucos pede socorro, o esgoto preto invade a água. Pescadores arriscam a pescaria em busca do sustento da família, mas nem sempre conseguem pescar grande quantidade. De acordo com os pescadores do local, a quantidade de peixes vem diminuindo a cada ano, conseqüência da poluição do rio.

A poluição modifica as características da água que perde o poder de autopurificar-se, provocando a morte de peixes e do próprio rio. Mais de 60 pescadores buscam nessa parte do Parnaíba seus sustentos, mas asseguram que o mau cheiro proveniente dos esgotos que vem do bairro Promorar e das indústrias situadas no local vem aumentando a cada dia o problema do rio.

Segundo Edmundo Almeida de Araújo, Militar aposentado e Pescador, “os esgotos que vem do bairro Promorar não tem tratamento algum, caem direto no rio e as autoridades não fazem nada. Ninguém vem aqui para ver como é que está o rio Parnaíba deste lado”, afirmou.

Para o pescador Francisco Miguel que sustenta a família com a pesca do Parnaíba, “providências precisam ser tomadas porque daqui a pouco não vai ter mais peixe aqui”, desabafou.
