A Contaminação no mar próximo à Fukushima é 4.385 vezes superior ao normal

A empresa Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), que administra a Usina Nuclear de Fukushima Daiichi, no Japão, informou hoje (31) que a taxa de iodo radioativo na região marítima que cerca a área está 4.385 vezes superior ao normal. A medição foi feita a 300 metros da área acidentada da usina.

Segundo os especialistas, é o nível mais elevado de iodo 131 registrado desde o início da catástrofe ocorrida no último dia 11, quando houve o terremoto seguido de tsunami no Nordeste do Japão.

No último sábado (26), a taxa de iodo radioativo era 1.250 vezes superior ao normal e, no domingo, 1.850 vezes. No início da semana, a taxa baixou, mas ontem voltou a subir, atingindo 3.355 vezes.

Desde que foram registrados os acidentes nucleares, houve vazamentos de vários elementos radioativos, principalmente iodo e césio, na água do mar. De acordo com a Tepco e a Agência de Segurança Nuclear do Japão, a radioatividade atinge principalmente as algas e os animais marinhos.

Há 20 dias,os técnicos tentam controlar a contaminação na região de Fukushima, mas enfrentam dificuldades nas operações devido aos lençóis de água que estão sob forte efeito radioativo, uma vez que galerias de água também foram atingidas pelo material radioativo.
