Operação apreende mais de 2,5 mil aves abatidas no sertão do Ceará

Fiscais do Ibama no município de Iguatu, a cerca de 350 quilômetros de Fortaleza, no sertão do Ceará, apreenderam nesta semana mais de 2,5 mil aves abatidas por caçadores ilegais em uma área de reprodução em meio a uma rota migratória que passa por açudes da região.

Conhecida como avoante no município, a Zenaida auriculata passa um período de 40 a 50 dias por ano no Nordeste próxima a açudes do sertão do Ceará com grande quantidade de água. As aves montam ninhos e usam o espaço para se reproduzir na natureza.

Segundo Fábio Lima Bandeira, chefe do escritório do Ibama no município de Iguatu, a caça migratória é muito grande na região e a ave é capturada e abatida principalmente para ser vendida e consumida em bares e restaurantes dos arredores. "Fizemos essa primeira fiscalização e vamos continuar porque o período de reprodução vai até o fim de abril", diz ele.

"Quando você mata a ave que está em reprodução, também está matando dois ou três filhotes, que ficam sem proteção e sem alimento", diz Bandeira. Segundo ele, a área que a ave escolhe para se reproduzir tem uma extensão de cerca de 20 quilômetros e os caçadores atuam sobretudo durante a madrugada. "Elas viram um alvo fácil quando estão no ninho. Os caçadores pegam pedaços de pau e vão batendo nas aves", diz.

Durante a fiscalização, realizada com apoio da polícia, oito pessoas foram detidas e conduzidas até a delegacia de Iguatu. As aves apreendidas foram doadas a comunidades carentes.
