Empresa confirma vazamento de líquido radioativo em mar do Japão

Responsável pela gestão da usina nuclear de Fukushima, no Japão, a empresa Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) confirmou neste sábado (2) o vazamento de um líquido altamente radioativo para o Oceano Pacífico.

O vazamento ocorre por uma rachadura de cerca de 20 centímetros na parede de uma fossa perto do reator 2, que tem água com alto nível de radiação numa profundidade entre 10 e 20 centímetros.

Agora, funcionários da empresa trabalham para conter o vazamento. A intenção é tampar a rachadura usando cimento. A Tepco também investiga se há outros vazamentos.

Nesta quinta-feira (31), a operadora informou que o nível de radiação na água de uma canalização subterrânea fora do prédio do reator 2 da usina estava mais de 10 mil vezes acima do nível normal permitido nos reatores. A Tepco também achou radiação em água do solo perto do reator 1.

Operários da usina ainda tentam drenar a água radioativa que se acumulou em diversas áreas dos reatores 1, 2 e 3. Além disso, é preciso restaurar o resfriamento dos reatores.

Primeiro-ministro – O primeiro-ministro do Japão, Naoto Kan, visitou neste sábado (2) Rikuzentakata, cidade de 25 mil habitantes que foi devastada pelo tsunami de 11 de março. Trata-se da primeira visita do chefe do Executivo japonês a uma das áreas atingidas pelo terremoto de magnitude 9 e a onda gigante. Desastre naturais já mataram mais 11.800 pessoas e deixaram mais de 15.500 desaparecidos.
