Inea vai multar Águas de Niterói pelo rompimento de estação de tratamento de esgoto

O Instituto Estadual do Ambiente (Inea) vai multar a concessionária Águas de Niterói pelo vazamento de 6 milhões de litros de esgoto da Estação de Tratamento Toque-Toque, na Praça Azevedo Cruz, ocorrido no último dia 17, no centro de Niterói. Segundo o Inea, o valor da multa ainda será definido pelo Conselho Diretor do órgão.

Pela manhã, técnicos do órgão e representantes da Comissão de Saneamento Ambiental da Assembleia Legislativa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro fizeram uma vistoria na estação de tratamento para avaliar as causas do acidente. O laudo só deve ficar pronto em alguns dias. Das dez pessoas feridas no acidente, uma permanece internada no Hospital das Clínicas de Niterói.

Para o secretário de Meio Ambiente de Niterói, Fernando Guida, que acompanhou a vistoria, a concessionária recebeu uma notificação e tem 48 horas para explicar as causas do rompimento do tanque e as providências adotadas para evitar possíveis danos ambientais. “O vazamento atingiu uma área urbana, com uma mistura de água e areia que estavam em um tratamento secundário, mas por não ter cheiro, não deve ter muita contaminação”, disse.

O esgoto que vazou da estação desceu com a força de uma enxurrada e destruiu uma praça, atingiu prédios e arrastou carros e pessoas que passavam pelo local. “Todos os prejuízos serão ressarcidos e as pessoas feridas indenizadas”, disse o presidente da concessionária Águas de Niterói, Dante Luvisoto. Ele explicou que uma das paredes laterais de um dos tanques da estação cedeu. A causa do rompimento está sendo investigada pela empresa e também pela Polícia Civil.

“Depois que a conclusão for divulgada, haverá a reconstrução do projeto do tanque, em 120 dias”, disse Luvisoto. De acordo com o presidente da Águas de Niterói, o vazamento não prejudicou o funcionamento da estação de tratamento. Hoje cedo, toda a área do acidente foi limpa.
