Google investe $100 milhões para a construção da maior fábrica eólica do mundo

Após anunciar o financiamento de US$168 milhões em energia térmica solar na semana passada, a Google informou que vai investir US$100 milhões no projeto da usina eólica de Oregon, chamada de Shepherds Flat Wind Farm, que se tornará a maior usina do mundo, com 845MW a serem gerados.

A empresa americana de sites de infraestrutura parece estar interessada com os rumos das energias renováveis não só nos EUA, mas em todo mundo. Constantemente, ela vem realizando ações em prol das novas energias (já contribuiu com indústrias eólicas, solares e geotérmicas em mais de US$ 350 milhões). Mas a injeção de recursos para a construção da nova usina eólica foi um passo importante no incentivo da energia dos ventos no mundo.

A nova fábrica vai superar, segundo avaliações, o Roscoe Eólico do Texas, que possui 627 turbinas e produção estimada em 781,5 MW. O Sheperds deve gerar 845 MW, com apenas 338 aerogeradores. O que significa que cada turbina vai trabalhar na fabricação de 2,5 MW de energia, o dobro do que as unidades de Oregon fazem atualmente.

Além disso, a fábrica será a primeira eólica comercial nos EUA a implantar, em escala, turbinas que utilizam imã permanente na geração da energia, tecnologia que melhora a eficiência e a capacidade de ligação na rede. O projeto, que deve empregar cerca de 400 pessoas, tem como construtoras principais a Cailthness Energy e a GE.
