Batata ideal para plantio orgânico

Uma das grandes preocupações dos produtores que adotam o cultivo orgânico é como lidar com pragas e doenças. No caso da batata, um dos maiores problemas é relativo à requeima. Segundo o pesquisador científico da Agência Paulista de Tecnologia dos Agronegócios Itararé (Apta - Itararé) Valdir José Ramos, a cultivar Aracy, desenvolvida no Instituto Agronômico de Campinas (IAC), apresenta resistência às principais doenças da batata, além de não exigir grande preocupação relativa ao adubo. A batata foi apresentada na 3ª Agrovia, que aconteceu entre os dias 6 e 9 de março, em Itapeva (SP).

Ela é uma batata excelente para a atividade culinária. Serve para fazer saladas, purês e fritas, como batata palha e batatas chips – diz Valdir.

Além das características relativas à culinária, o pesquisador afirma que ela possui excelente resistência contra requeima e principais doenças da batata. Além disso, ele explica que a cultivar pode ser usada no grande plantio sem grandes preocupações com o uso de agrotóxicos. Já quanto aos cuidados de manejo, a Aracy não difere das outras variedades de batata do mercado.

Ela exige nenhuma ou pouca pulverização, não demanda muita adubação e é um cultivar que pode ser usado tranquilamente no plantio orgânico – afirma.

A produtividade também não apresenta grande diferença. De acordo com o pesquisador, ela produz aproximadamente 25 toneladas por hectare, podendo chegar à 30 toneladas. Mas esses números, segundo ele, dependem muito do clima.

Às vezes, se chove demais, a batata pode ter problemas. Nessa época de verão aqui da região, por exemplo, há muita chuva e muito calor. Nesse caso, ela só vegeta, mas não produz nada embaixo, devido ao calor e à umidade. Com isso, aumenta a probabilidade de doenças foliares e as peles dos tubérculos acabam ficando muito ásperas, o que gera distúrbios fisiológicos, como a lenticelose, além de pragas e doenças – diz.

Abril é o período ideal para o plantio de inverno, segundo Valdir, devido à ausência de muita chuva e calor, que podem causar problemas. A batata também pode ser plantada em qualquer região.

A única coisa que deve-se evitar é a geada. Esse mês, por exemplo, é um bom período. Como o ciclo da batata dura 90 dias, em junho ou julho, já não há mais problemas. Se houver geadas, é ainda melhor, pois não é preciso matar a rama com produtos químicos para uniformizar a produção – explica.
