Ovinocultura leiteira: rendimento em dobro

Lacone, Frísia e Bergamácia, principais raças de ovelhas leiteiras atualmente no Brasil, prometem trazer mais oportunidades aos produtores, que podem investir na produção de leite, com alto teor de cálcio e elevado valor agregado, além do próprio corte. De acordo com o pesquisador da Embrapa Caprinos e Ovinos Octávio Morais, a produção de leite ovina exige mais cuidado com os animais, que dependem de manejo mais direto.

O produtor precisa ter em mente que a ovelha não é uma vaca pequena. Ela exige uma forma de criação diferenciada. Portanto, ele precisa estudar e aprender qual a forma diferenciada de lidar com os ovinos – afirma Morais.

Segundo ele, a maior diferença está na espécie, mas quando se trata de produção de leite, as estratégias são parecidas. A parte de alimentação deve ser bem resolvida. Já o manejo, a ordenha e a limpeza se aproximam da bovinocultura.

Mas um aspecto que demanda bastante atenção é a questão da mastite, mais severa na ovelha. Por isso, é necessário um cuidado grande em relação à higiene – orienta.

O pesquisador cita ainda uma estratégia para o produtor: não criar as ovelhas apenas para produzir leite, mas também investir no corte. A ovinocultura leiteira ainda está começando no país e é mais uma oportunidade para a ovinocultura se desenvolver. O leite é muito concentrado, portanto representa o dobro do rendimento do leite de vaca e cabra. Com isso, o valor agregado dos produtos derivados é alto. Segundo o pesquisador, a produção de leite é variável de animal para animal ou entre raças.

No Brasil, as raças leiteiras disponíveis apresentam produção variável entre 800ml até 2 litros de leite por ovelha. O leite é muito concentrado, portanto representa o dobro do rendimento do leite de vaca e cabra. Com isso, o valor agregado dos produtos derivados é alto – afirma.

As vacinações também são importantes, em especial contra clostridioses, como diz o pesquisador. Em algumas regiões, também é necessário vaciná-las contra a raiva. Além disso, deve-se ter cuidados com o casco e com verminoses.
