Caatinga e Cerrado são temas de debate na Câmara

O secretário de Biodiversidade e Florestas do Ministério do Meio Ambiente, Bráulio Dias, participa, nesta quinta-feira (28/04), às 9h, de audiência pública em comemoração ao Dia Nacional da Caatinga. A audiência será marcada pela defesa da aprovação, no Congresso Nacional, da Proposta de Emenda Constitucional (PEC) que transforma a Caatinga e o Cerrado em patrimônios nacionais.

Na audiência, representantes do MMA, parlamentares e ONGs vão discutir formas de combate ao desmatamento e de obtenção de recursos para preservação ambiental. O diretor de Combate à Desertificação do MMA, Francisco Campello, vai falar sobre o processo de desertificação na região.

A Caatinga ocupa uma área de cerca de 850 mil km², equivalente a 11% do Brasil O único bioma exclusivamente brasileiro engloba Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, Piauí, Sergipe e o norte de Minas Gerais. Rico em biodiversidade, a Caatinga sofre com o desmatamento. Segundo levantamento do MMA, 45% do território está desmatado. O evento é promovido pelo Núcleo Bioma Caatinga do MMA e pela Comissão de Meio Ambiente da Câmara.
