Educação é fundamental para a coleta seletiva e reciclagem do lixo

A educação ambiental é fundamental para que o cidadão adote a coleta seletiva e, embora não esteja formalizada nos currículos, muitas escolas já têm adotado a matéria em seus programas. “Na verdade, ela [a educação ambiental] é transversalizada. As questões têm que fazer parte de todas as discussões. Nada impede que uma escola tenha um programa de educação ambiental. As crianças sabem da obrigação de cuidar do planeta”, explica a coordenadora de Consumo Sustentável do Ministério do Meio Ambiente (MMA), Fernanda Daltro.

A coleta seletiva de lixo está implantada em 443 municípios brasileiros – apenas 8% dos 5.565 - e em muitas cidades a população ainda não colabora. "O erro é do planejamento. Não se implementa a coleta seletiva sem um programa de educação ambiental antes. A pessoa tem que ser informada sobre o porquê de fazer a coleta e como aquilo se reverterá em benefícios, não só para a família dela e seus descendentes”, explica o coordenador do núcleo de Educação Ambiental do Prevfogo do Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis (Ibama), Genebaldo Freire.

O Plano Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos (PNRS) prevê que todos os municípios do país tenham coleta seletiva em quatro anos e os lixões estarão proibidos. Os programas de educação ambiental são desenvolvidos em várias escolas públicas e privadas com foco na coleta seletiva

Crianças de 1ano e 8 meses a 6 anos de uma escola do Lago Sul, em Brasília, participam de atividades extracurriculares onde aprendem sobre a coleta seletiva e também que não se deve jogar lixo no chão, porque os resíduos entopem bueiros e podem prejudicar o escoamento da água da chuva, provocando alagamentos.

“Essa conscientização eles têm desde pequenos. Embora muitos não saibam ler, aprendem sobre a coleta seletiva por meio das cores", explica a coordenadora da escola, Edna Regina. Algumas cores foram padronizadas para a coleta seletiva: vermelho para o plástico; amarelo para o metal; verde para o vidro; azul para o papel e cinza para aquele resíduo que não pode ser reciclado ou misturado.

O que é jogado também fora pode virar arte. Sandra Virgínia Scheid é dentista e artesã em Porto Alegre. “O mundo é rico em resíduos. Faço do lixo um tipo de arte”. Ela utiliza os materiais descartáveis de seu consultório, como sugador de saliva e seringas, para fazer quadros. O objetivo é educar. Sandra explica que o interesse surgiu há seis anos, com o nascimento de seu filho. “ Eu ficava assustada com a quantidade de fralda que jogava fora e pensava que tinha que fazer algo. Utilizar material do consultório foi uma consequência.”

O papel da sociedade na Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos (PNRS) é fundamental. O MMA prevê uma campanha de consumo consciente por ano. Segundo Fernanda Daltro, o próprio ministério percebu que não será suficiente. “A campanha Saco é um Saco foi um grande sucesso, com todo mundo falando. Nós temos um departamento de produção e consumo sustentável que vai estimular os consumidores e o setor produtivo a desenvolver novos padrões, com menos impacto no meio ambiente.”

A próxima campanha, segundo ela, será sobre a separação de resíduos sólidos.
