A Coordenadora do Programa de Posse Responsável de Animais Domésticos, Prof. Dra. Roseli Pizzigatti Klein e os Coordenadores dos Projetos, os Professores Doutores Ana Maria Quessada e Marcelo Campos Rodrigues do curso de Medicina Veterinária, inscreveram o Programa na Pró-reitoria de Extensão da Universidade Federal do Piauí, no PROEXT 2010 da Secretaria de Educação Superior do Ministério da Educação.

O Programa foi aprovado com liberação de recursos para aquisição de materiais permanentes e de consumo, necessários para a realização do mesmo, que foram gerenciados pela Fundação Cultural e de Fomento à Pesquisa, Ensino e Extensão (FADEX).

O programa incluirá uma série de ações envolvendo posse responsável de animais domésticos (particularmente cães e gatos), tema importante e atual na sociedade brasileira, inclusive atingindo a área educacional prioritária para o país que é a educação ambiental.

Esse programa é composto de três projetos e será desenvolvido no Hospital Veterinário Universitário (HVU) da Universidade Federal do Piauí (UFPI) por uma equipe composta de docentes, residentes, médicos veterinários autônomos e acadêmicos do curso de Medicina Veterinária.

O primeiro projeto constará de palestras e apresentação de vídeos sobre educação ambiental, em especial a posse responsável de cães e gatos.

O segundo será a castração cirúrgica gratuita de cães e gatos, machos e fêmeas a partir de três meses a dez anos de idade, de proprietários com carência sócio-econômica. As cirurgias serão realizadas sob a responsabilidade de uma equipe cirúrgica chefiada por um médico veterinário professor da UFPI.

O terceiro projeto será realizado em parceria com a Associação Piauiense de Proteção e Amor aos Animais (APIPA) com a castração e adoção de animais do abrigo mantido pela Instituição. A APIPA fornecerá fotos dos animais que serão expostos no saguão do HVU da UFPI para divulgação entre pessoas interessadas e com condições financeiras para adotar os animais.

Os responsáveis e interessados em castrar seus animais deverão se dirigir ao Colégio Agrícola na Sala Setor de Pessoal de segunda a quinta-feira, das 9h às 12h e das 14h às 17h, para o seu cadastramento e do animal.

Será necessária a apresentação da seguinte documentação: RG, CPF, comprovante de residência (conta de luz ou água) com comprovação da carência sócio-econômica.
