Energias renováveis, no eixo das mais amigas do meio ambiente

O Painel Intergovernamental para Mudança Climática, o IPCC, na sigla em inglês, divulgou nesta segunda-feira um relatório sobre o uso de energias renováveis no mundo. A fatia fica em torno dos 13% do total usado no planeta.

Parece muito, mas retiradas da equação biomassa e hidrelétrica, o percentual cai para minúsculos 0,5%. No país da polêmica usina de Belo Monte, todos conhecem os benefícios e também os potenciais problemas da expansão hidrelétrica.

Já a biomassa, o próprio IPCC admite que em vários países pobres e em desenvolvimento não passa da velha e boa lenha usada no fogão e no aquecimento. Difícil argumentar que em comunidades em que faltam serviços básicos possa haver grande preocupação em repor as árvores usadas, como seria pré-requisito para uma energia veramente renovável.

Isso sem contar com a eficiência dessa queima de biomassa, baixíssima e ainda poluente.

Crescimento acelerado

Em outras palavras, a fatia correspondente às energias mais frequentemente associadas à redução das emissões de gases que provocam o efeito estufa - solar, eólica e geotérmica - ainda é ínfima. Mas ela vem crescendo, e muito.

O documento diz que nos últimos dois anos, a geração de energia solar e dos ventos cresceu entre 30% e 50% por ano. E que em 2009, renováveis, principalmente vento e solar, responderam por quase metade do crescimento na produção de energia global.

Na superindustrializada Alemanha, segundo maior exportador do mundo e que recentemente bateu recorde, as energias renováveis já são 17% do total, graças a incentivos cada vez maiores do governo.

A China é um dos principais responsáveis pelo crescimento da produção de energia renovável nos últimos anos, mais do que duplicando a sua capacidade eólica desde 2008, também na esteira de investimentos do governo.

Em tempos de discussão sobre os prós e contras de uma retomada da expansão da energia nuclear, o relatório do IPCC diz ainda que na maioria dos mais de 160 cenários científicos estudados, energias renováveis serão mais eficientes do que a nuclear para reduzir emissões até 2050.

A conclusão é que todas são energias de baixo carbono, mas algumas são mais renováveis que as outras.
