O modelo Bonito

Normalmente é assim: um lugar com atrações naturais exuberantes um dia se torna destino badalado. Operadores de turismo passam então a comercializá-lo e, com o tempo, a cidade é invadida pelo turismo de massa. Logo, a natureza começa a pagar a conta. Mas isso não se deu com Bonito. Campeão histórico do Prêmio VT na categoria destino de ecoturismo, o lugar encanta por suas águas límpidas e pela fauna que a habita. A novidade de Bonito é que o município não tem áreas de preservação ambiental.

Há um parque nacional, o da Serra da Bodoquena, nos arredores, mas as principais atrações da cidade ficam fora dele. O controle estrito de visitação - com preços acima da média das atrações brasileiras - e o sistema de comercialização, exclusivo de agências credenciadas, ajudam a evitar que o lugar siga o mau caminho.

Nem mesmo o número cada vez maior de turistas - em 2010, foram à cidade 276 mil deles, 106 mil a mais que dois anos antes - parece representar uma ameaça. Para especialistas, o modelo de Bonito, com muitas das decisões sobre o turismo nas mãos da iniciativa privada, joga a favor da preservação. Edgar Werblowsky, da operadora especializada em destinos de aventura Freeway, é um adepto. "Os proprietários cuidam bem dessas terras, pois sabem que, do contrário, o retorno econômico não vem." Para o consultor de ecopolítica Sérgio Abranches, "é mais fácil as coisas darem certo em Bonito.

A maioria das trilhas é feita a pé, o que impacta bem menos". "Em Fernando de Noronha", segue ele, "é um absurdo a quantidade de bugues e pousadas que são construídas sem licenciamento." Para ir às principais atrações de Bonito, como o Abismo Anhumas - a maior caverna submersa do mundo -, a famosa gruta do Lago Azul e as flutuações e os mergulhos nos rios Formoso e da Prata, é preciso comprar um voucher. "Com ele, a arrecadação é dividida entre os gestores envolvidos e há um controle absoluto sobre quantas pessoas estão fazendo os tours", diz Lucila Egydio, bióloga e especialista em ecoturismo. Bonito ainda conta com 120 guias profissionais, além de uma equipe de geólogos e biólogos que trabalha para monitorar o impacto que a visitação causa no meio ambiente.
