Resíduos sólidos sob consulta

No próximo dia 21 de junho deverá ser lançada a primeira versão do Plano Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos, cuja implementação fica a cargo do governo federal por intermédio do Comitê Interministerial de Resíduos Sólidos. O documento desta primeira versão baseia-se em diagnóstico da situação presente dos resíduos sólidos no Brasil, elaborado pelo Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas Aplicadas (Ipea).

Nacionalmente, o plano balizará as linhas estaduais e municipais de manejo do lixo. Uma vez implementado, o plano será atualizado a cada quatro anos nos próximos 20 anos. A primeira versão irá para consulta pública e debates durante 40 dias.

Para o IPT, processos industriais de transformação de matérias-primas, a construção civil e a petroquímica alinham-se entre os principais geradores de grandes quantidades de resíduos. Estes resíduos, dependendo do processo e da sua decomposição, têm potencial de recuperação e valorização. Alguns resíduos podem representar risco ambiental e necessitam de sistemas adequados para tratamento e destino final.

Resíduos podem ser transformados em novos produtos ou matérias-primas. Segundo a pesquisadora Cláudia Echevenguá Teixeira, do Centro de Tecnologias Ambientais e Energéticas do IPT, com o desenvolvimento de tecnologias de valorização – como reciclagem, reúso e reemprego – e de tratamento para remover características que tornam determinados resíduos perigosos, é possível viabilizar o seu reaproveitamento, minimizar sua periculosidade e transformá-los em novos produtos ou matérias-primas para outros processos industriais.

“O IPT vem trabalhando em alternativas para reciclagem de resíduos da construção e demolição (RCD), no aproveitamento de lodos de estação de tratamento de água e esgoto e no desenvolvimento de tecnologias para o tratamento de resíduos perigosos como, por exemplo, materiais contaminados com hexaclorociclohexano”, destaca a pesquisadora.
