Universidades do Rio pesquisam aumento da produção aquática

Universidades públicas e privadas do Rio de Janeiro vão participar de trabalho conjunto de pesquisa para promover o incremento da produção no ambiente aquático brasileiro, que inclui as lagoas, os rios e o mar. O trabalho será coordenado pela Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), primeiramente no estado do Rio e, posteriormente, em todo o país.

“A [Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro] Rural vai coordenar as ações para estimular o incremento do setor da pesca e aquicultura, do ponto de vista de trabalhos científicos e do desenvolvimento de projetos de produção”, informou hoje (24) à Agência Brasil o reitor da UFRRJ, Ricardo Motta Miranda.

A expectativa é, a partir dos estudos, aumentar a produção atual em dez vezes. Miranda destacou que a pesquisa levará em conta os princípios de sustentabilidade social e ambiental, mas vendo o pescado “como um grande negócio que tem ainda muito a crescer no Brasil”.

As metas para atingir esse objetivo serão definidas no Fórum Revolução Azul, que a UFRRJ promove hoje (25), em parceria com o Ministério da Pesca e Aquicultura e o Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES).

Segundo o reitor da UFRRJ, o fórum servirá para a “formalização do reconhecimento da atividade de produção de pescado e demais produtos que usam a água como substrato dentro do mundo rural”. As conclusões em direção ao desenvolvimento sustentável do uso das águas brasileiras farão parte da Carta da Revolução Azul, que será lançada durante o evento.

“É um documento que coloca o direcionamento do setor rural para a Rio+20 [Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre Desenvolvimento Sustentável, em 2012] no que diz respeito à conscientização socioambiental, relacionada à parte das águas”. A intenção, de acordo com Miranda, é que a Carta da Revolução Azul funcione como ponto de partida para a organização de todas as entidades e pessoas que atuam na área do planejamento e desenvolvimento sustentável.

Miranda ressaltou que essa é a primeira vez que ocorre no país uma tentativa de planejamento semelhante, unindo o meio acadêmico, o empresariado, um banco de desenvolvimento e entidades representativas de trabalhadores rurais que atuam ligados à produção nas águas continentais e marinhas. “Está faltando a identificação de todos os elos da cadeia produtiva e dos gargalos para definir até que ponto pode ir o planejamento de expansão”.

A conferência das Nações Unidas ocorrerá no Rio de Janeiro, exatamente 20 anos depois da conferência que ficou conhecida como Rio 92. O objetivo é fazer um balanço das ações empreendidas no mundo desde então. A Rio 92 é considerada um marco na história do desenvolvimento socioambiental.
