Após aumento do desmate, governo reforça fiscalização em Mato Grosso

O governo decidiu aumentar a ofensiva contra o desmatamento em Mato Grosso, que voltou a registrar avanço das derrubadas em março e abril. No bimestre, o estado foi responsável por 80% de todo o desmatamento verificado na Amazônia Legal pelo Sistema de Detecção do Desmatamento em Tempo Real (Deter), operado pelo Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (Inpe).

A derrubada em Mato Grosso, tradicionalmente concentrada no norte do estado, se deslocou para o centro-oeste, na região de influência do município de Sinop, distante 500 quilômetros (km) de Cuiabá.

Mais de 200 homens da Polícia Federal, Força Nacional de Segurança e Polícia Rodoviária Federal e pelo menos 500 agentes do Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis (Ibama) estão na região para reforçar a fiscalização e tentar coibir o avanço dos desmatamentos.

A minsitra do Meio Ambiente, Izabella Teixeira, e o ministro da Justiça, Jose Eduardo Cardozo, visitaram hoje o estado para acompanhar o trabalho de campo dos agentes. “Para sufocar o desmate, vamos entrar não só com a fiscalização, vamos para as áreas embargadas”, disse a ministra.

Os ministros estiveram em uma área de 120 hectares, desmatada recentemente, onde a vegetação foi derrubada com o uso do chamado correntão, que é uma extensa corrente de metal, presa a dois tratores, usada para derrubar mais rapidamente grandes áreas de floresta. Lá, o Ibama apreendeu dois tratores e multou o dono da terra, que é produtor de arroz, em R$ 600 mil.

O Inpe e o Ibama vão começar a monitorar áreas embargadas para que o governo seja alertado quando o proprietário estiver descumprindo a ordem de manter paralisadas as atividades agropecuárias. “Vamos tirar todo o equipamento, os tratores, a madeira. Quem aposta na ideia de que o boi vai ficar lá, vai perder”, alertou Izabella Teixeira.

O governo também quer aumentar o controle sobre as licenças estaduais para desmatamento legal. A lei determina que a emissão de licenças de supressão de vegetação é prerrogativa dos órgãos estaduais de meio ambiente, mas as informações devem ser compartilhadas com a União, que é responsável pela fiscalização. “Queremos saber onde o estado autoriza os desmatamentos. A responsabilidade é do estado, mas as informações precisam ser compartilhadas. Vamos ter um sistema para saber que desmatamento são legais ou ilegais na Amazônia”.

Mato Grosso, Pará e Amazonas já começaram a compartilhar dados de licenças ambientais com o governo federal e, segundo a ministra, deverão assinar acordos com a União para formalizar a troca das informações.

O diretor de Proteção Ambiental do Ibama, Luciano Evaristo, pediu apoio do Exército para reforçar as ações no estado até 31 de julho. Os meses de maio, junho e julho são considerados críticos para o combate ao desmatamento na Amazônia por causa do período da estiagem, quando é mais fácil derrubar e transportar a madeira extraída ilegalmente. A operação pode ser estendida para outros estados. “Quando as nuvens abrirem, vamos começar a enxergar como está a situação e definir novas estratégias", adiantou.
