Começa no Rio distribuição de kits da campanha sobre descarte correto do lixo

Começa hoje (2), em 32 agências do Banco do Brasil na cidade do Rio, a distribuição de kits para os voluntários que quiserem participar do movimento de mobilização social Limpa Brasil Let's Do It!, programado para o próximo domingo (5), dentro das comemorações do Dia Mundial do Meio Ambiente.

A capital fluminense foi escolhida entre as sete maiores cidades brasileiras para dar início ao movimento, trazido ao país pela organização não governamental (ONG) Atitude Brasil.

A diretora executiva da ONG, Marta Rocha, disse que a iniciativa, nessa primeira etapa, não tem o objetivo de discutir a qualidade dos serviços públicos, mas de sensibilizar o cidadão para que reveja suas atitudes. A meta é conscientizar a população para o descarte correto do lixo, a fim de que a cidade se torne mais limpa. “A ideia é convocar a sociedade para um mutirão de limpeza das ruas das principais cidades do país, com o intuito de fazer com que as pessoas, limpando, não sujem, para criar o hábito de não jogar o lixo fora do lixo”.

Os 20 ecopontos onde os resíduos recolhidos pela população serão entregues no dia 5 estão listados no site do movimento. Os ecopontos estão distribuídos em vários bairros das zonas centro, sul e norte da cidade e também em comunidades onde existem ONGs que se dedicam à causa ambiental.

O Limpa Brasil Let’s do It! tem o apoio da Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, a Ciência e a Cultura (Unesco), do Banco do Brasil, da mineradora Vale, da companhia telefônica Oi, da Coca-Cola e da Braskem. Foram confeccionados 50 mil sacos plásticos que não agridem o meio ambiente e que serão usados para retirar das ruas os resíduos úmidos e sólidos. Ao final do evento, o lixo será recolhido por cooperativas de catadores e pelo Movimento de Catadores de Materiais Recicláveis do Rio de Janeiro.

Em agosto, a primeira fase do Limpa Brasil terá continuidade em Brasília, deslocando-se em seguida para Goiânia, Belo Horizonte, Campinas, Guarulhos e São Paulo. A segunda etapa, prevista para o ano que vem, envolverá outras sete grandes cidades brasileiras. Em 2013, a intenção é realizar a campanha nas 14 cidades simultaneamente.

A ação deverá ser promovida sempre a cada dois anos. Em 2012, será desenvolvido um programa educativo direcionado às escolas, para estimular a conscientização de professores e alunos sobre o descarte de lixo irregular nas vias públicas. Segundo Marta, a Atitude Brasil tem trabalhado, há dez anos, “para a construção de uma nova cultura com relação à nossa responsabilidade, como cidadãos, a respeito do lixo”.

O movimento Let’s do It! foi idealizado pelo ambientalista Rainer Nõlvak. O primeiro evento foi realizado na Estônia, em 2008. Com a ajuda de 50 mil voluntários, ele conseguiu retirar 10 mil toneladas de lixo de praças, ruas e florestas. O Brasil é o primeiro país a levar a campanha a sete cidades e Marta Rocha espera que esse exemplo possa ser seguido por outros países.
