Estudo mostra potencial econômico das unidades de conservação

O Ministério do Meio Ambiente e o Programa das Nações Unidas para o Meio Ambiente, com o apoio do Instituto de Pesquisa Econômica Aplicada (Ipea), da embaixada britânica e da Cooperação Internacional Alemã (GIZ), discutem hoje (7) em Brasília o estudo Contribuição das Unidades de Conservação para a Economia Nacional. Será às 14h no Ipea.

A publicação apresenta análises sobre o potencial econômico de cinco dos vários bens e serviços provenientes das unidades de conservação: produtos florestais, uso público, estoque de carbono, água e repartição de receitas tributárias.

No estudo, são apresentados valores que as unidades de conservação podem gerar e que podem atingir bilhões de reais por meio de atividades como produção de madeira em tora nas florestas nacionais e estaduais da Amazônia, receita potencial derivada do Imposto sobre Circulação de Mercadorias e Serviços (ICMS) Ecológico para os estados e a visitação pública às unidades de conservação federais e estaduais.
