Exploração de áreas protegidas renderia R$ 10 bilhões por ano

As áreas naturais protegidas do Brasil poderiam render a nada desprezível quantia de R$ 9,8 bilhões por ano se fossem administradas com mais afinco, de acordo com levantamento divulgado na terça-feira em Brasília.

A conta inclui apenas possíveis lucros com visitação de turistas, extração sustentável de recursos (como madeira e borracha) e estoques de carbono, que tendem a se tornar cada vez mais valorizados no mercado internacional com o aquecimento global.

O estudo recebeu a chancela do Pnuma, principal órgão ambiental da ONU, e foi coordenado por Rodrigo Medeiros, da Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Eduardo Frickmann Young, da UFRJ (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro), e Fabio França Silva Araújo, do Ministério do Meio Ambiente.

No trabalho, os especialistas levam em conta o fato de que a diversidade das unidades de conservação no Brasil permite, em muitos casos, um uso criterioso da mata, o chamado manejo florestal.

Seguindo critérios como tamanho mínimo de árvores abatidas, tempo de crescimento das espécies e impacto do corte sobre o resto da mata, é possível realizar uma exploração madeireira de baixo impacto.

A lei já permite concessões para esse tipo de atividade em unidades de conservação como as Flonas (florestas nacionais), embora a ideia ainda esteja engatinhando.

CÁLCULO

E foi com base na Flona do Jamari (RO) que os pesquisadores calcularam o potencial desse mercado para todas as florestas nacionais e estaduais da Amazônia: até R$ 2,2 bilhões anuais -- mais do que todo o mercado atual de madeira nativa do Brasil.

Atividades extrativistas de baixo impacto, como obtenção de castanha-do-pará e borracha, somam mais de R$ 50 milhões a esse número.

Outro potencial inexplorado, segundo a pesquisa, é o dos parques nacionais --de 67 existentes hoje, apenas 18 cobram ingresso dos visitantes e monitoram seu fluxo.

Usando dados de locais bem conhecidos, como o Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos (RJ), e estimativas do aumento do turismo nos próximos anos por conta de eventos como as Olimpíadas de 2016, os pesquisadores afirmam que seria possível obter até R$ 2 bilhões por ano.

A principal aposta para o futuro, no entanto, envolve a emissão evitada de gás carbônico, principal causador do aquecimento global.
