Eleição para membros do Comitê de Bacia acontece amanhã em Picos

Novos membros serão eleitos e empossados no Comitê de Bacia Hidrográfica dos Rios Canindé e Piauí. A eleição acontecerá amanhã (10), às 9 horas, no Centro de Treinamento do Diocesano, na cidade de Picos. O evento contará com a participação de todos os municípios que fazem parte da Bacia.

De acordo com a pauta da reunião, os trabalhos serão coordenados pelo secretário Dalton Macambira que iniciará uma discussão e votação dos novos membros. “Será mais uma oportunidade que teremos para apresentar as obras hídricas do Estado do Piauí, bem como ouvir as lideranças”.

Durante a reunião, será apresentada a versão final do Plano Estadual de Recursos Hídricos do Piauí, além do balanço da atuação do Comitê ao término do primeiro mandato (2009-2011)”, enfatiza o secretário Dalton Macambira.

O comitê foi criado com base no decreto que será assinado pelo governador, que terá como território de atuação os municípios que integram a Bacia Hidrográfica dos Rios Canindé e Piauí. O mesmo tem como atribuições acompanhar e aprovar a elaboração de planos, programas e projetos para utilização dos recursos hídricos da respectiva bacia, além de sugerir providências necessárias para o cumprimento de suas metas. A primeira diretoria teve caráter provisório, sendo responsável pela instalação do comitê, elaboração e aprovação do regimento interno e condução do processo eleitoral para a eleição da diretoria definitiva.

Maior bacia estadual - A Bacia Hidrográfica dos Rios Canindé e Piauí é a maior bacia estadual e concetra, em termos relativos e absolutos, a maior parcela do semiárido piauiense. Sua porção oriental apresenta índices pluviométricos inferiores a 500 mm, além de geologia caracterizada pelo afloramento do embasamento cristalino, o que impõe um quadro de baixa potencialidade hídrica natural tanto do ponto de vista superficial quanto subterrâneo. Mesmo na porção sedimentar da bacia, a geologia e a topografia locais fazem com que a grande maioria dos cursos d’água seja intermitente e os dois maiores rios da bacia somente atinjam a condição de permanentes já próximos às respectivas fozes.

Apesar das limitações impostas pela natureza, o próprio processo de ocupação do Estado induziu à região altas taxas de concentração populacional. Abrigando total ou parcialmente 103 municípios e contendo 88 cidades, a bacia possui uma população da ordem de 666.354 habitantes, segundo a contagem da população de 2007, estando nela localizado o terceiro município mais populoso do Piauí, além de 13 municípios com mais de 10 mil habitantes.

Em função das baixas disponibilidades hídricas naturais foram construídos ou estão em construção diversos reservatórios de acumulação que permitem maximizar a utilização dos volumes escoados no período chuvoso. Desconsiderando a barragem hidrelétrica de Boa Esperança, a bacia do Canindé/Piauí é a que detém a maior capacidade de acumulação em lagos artificiais dentre as doze bacias estaduais.
