Povos indígenas tradicionais debatem conservação da biodiversidade

A partir desta quarta-feira, 19 de outubro, se reúnem em Brasília, O Ministério do Meio Ambiente e entidades parceiras como WWF-Brasil, União Internacional de Conservação da Natureza (IUCN), Instituto Ipê e representantes de populações tradicionais e povos indígenas para debater a elaboração da Estratégia Nacional para a Conservação da Biodiversidade.

O evento faz parte da série Diálogos da Biodiversidade, organizada para promover consultas públicas a diferentes setores da sociedade, cujo objetivo é coletar a contribuição civil para a construção de um Plano Nacional de Biodiversidade.

"Antes de estabelecermos novas estratégias nacionais para 2020, de acordo com a última Convenção sobre Diversidade Biológica, decidimos promover esse diálogo. É fundamental a inserção do tema da biodiversidade no planejamento estratégico e político de outros segmentos do Governo e da economia", esclarece a analista ambiental, Carla Lemos.

A líder indígena Fernanda Kaigang ressalta que a iniciativa é um esforço para promoção de um diálogo democrático, e que a ação deve ser um reflexo dos avanços que devem ser implementados no País sede da Rio+20.

"Somos conhecidos como o País com uma das maiores legislações indigenistas do mundo, mas que não são cumpridas por falta de conhecimento e de vontade política. Neste evento vemos que existe vontade política. Acredito que não vamos fracassar no cumprimento destas novas metas, porque estamos construindo algo mais sólido, com o aval de todos os setores", avalia.
