A Copa será a mais verde da história

Ministros do Meio Ambiente e dos Esportes assinam acordo referente a sustentabilidade durante eventos esportivos no Brasil.

Os ministros do Meio Ambiente, Izabella Teixeira, e do Esporte, Orlando Silva, assinaram com o Pnuma (Programa das Nações Unidas para o Meio Ambiente) memorando de entendimento com o objetivo de consolidar, desenvolver e intensificar a cooperação para atingir as metas comuns na área ambiental durante os dois grandes eventos esportivos previstos para o Brasil nos próximos anos: a Copa do Mundo de 2014 e as Olimpíadas de 2016.

"Essa assinatura dá sequência à agenda de sustentabilidade que vem sendo discutida desde o ano passado em parceria com o Ministério do Esporte", disse Izabella Teixeira". "Nossa principal meta é avaliar e monitorar a sustentabilidade da Copa e das Olimpíadas". Segundo ela, o memorando também está relacionado ao Programa Parques do Brasil. No particular, o governo pretende melhorar a gestão e ampliar as áreas sob proteção em cada bioma brasileiro.

Aliar o turismo, o esporte e o meio ambiente é ponto fundamental para que o Brasil evidencie suas preocupações com a sustentabilidade. "A sustentabilidade ambiental é um dos elementos estruturais para a Copa do Mundo", acrescentou a ministra, lembrando que os dois eventos aumentam as responsabilidades do Brasil,que sediará, também, a Rio+20, a Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre Desenvolvimento Sustentável, no Rio de Janeiro, em junho de 2012.

O ministro do Esporte, Orlando Silva, lembrou que um dos critérios para a liberação de financiamentos para a construção dos estádios eram as certificações ambientais. "Cem por cento do material demolido foram reutilizados', explicou. "Isso é fruto de uma agenda de trabalho comum com o Ministério do Meio Ambiente". O Pnuma formará equipe de especialistas em temas ambientais relacionados a esportes para assessorar o Comitê Organizador Local da Copa do Mundo e também as 12 cidades-sedes.

O diretor-executivo do Pnuma, Achim Steiner, ressaltou a importância do trabalho do País em relação à preservação do meio ambiente. "A Copa do Mundo tem só um mês. Temos de ir além disso com a preocupação ambiental", destacou. "É uma oportunidade de mostrar ao mundo que o Brasil é um exemplo de sustentabilidade e vai, sim, realizar a Copa e as Olimpíadas mais ecológicas de toda a história".
