Piauí começa a exportar castanha de caju para a Europa

Cooperativa responsável pela comercialização do produto tem apoio do Sebrae

A amêndoa da castanha de caju, produzida pela Central de Cooperativas de Cajucultores do Estado do Piauí (Cocajupi), começou a ser exportada para a Itália, lá a castanha será comercializada pela Cooperativa Chico Mendes.

É a primeira inserção desse produto no mercado internacional, o que representa o resultado da conquista da certificação da Cocajupi para o Comércio Justo ou Fairtrade - modalidade de comercialização que leva em conta requisitos como responsabilidade social, sustentabilidade e competitividade dos pequenos e médios produtores.

Segundo o gerente administrativo da Cocajupi, Luiz Eduardo Rodrigues, essa é a primeira experiência de exportação da central. “Enviamos a primeira remessa no dia 15 deste mês. A segunda sairá na primeira semana de novembro. Serão exportadas 150 caixas ao todo, o que corresponde a mais de três mil quilos de amêndoas, sendo comercializados a quase 35 mil euros”, informa.

A Cocajupi, que tem sede em Picos, cidade localizada a 306 quilômetros ao sul de Teresina, reúne nove pequenas cooperativas de cajucultores. As entidades fazem o trabalho de beneficiamento do caju e a central é responsável pelo processamento da castanha. No processo de certificação, a Cocajupi tem sido acompanhada pelo Sebrae no Piauí, por meio do Projeto Fruticultura Piauiense. Cursos, oficinas, consultorias, entre outras capacitações, são realizadas junto aos produtores ligados à central.
