Peixe é testado contra dengue

Mais uma arma no combate à dengue está sendo testada em Manaus. Professores e alunos do Colégio Martha Falcão vêm trabalhando em um projeto inovador contra o mosquito transmissor da dengue, utilizando um inimigo natural das larvas do Aedes aegypti: o Lebiste selvagem (Poecilia reticulada), peixe de pequeno porte facilmente encontrado nos igarapés da cidade.

Também conhecido como Barrigudinho, Barriga de Lama ou Guppy, o Lebiste é larvófago e predador natural do Aedes aegypti e se alimenta de suas larvas.

O peixe está sendo criado em cativeiro no bosque da escola, em Adrianópolis, após a captura de matrizes no igarapé da Cachoeirinha para depois ser solto em seu habitat natural. O trabalho começou em setembro.

“Colocaremos armadilhas para o mosquito depositar seus ovos e, em seguida, forneceremos aos Lebistes. Com a criação do peixe controlaremos o avanço iminente dos agentes transmissores da dengue, além de contribuirmos para o melhoramento genético desse pequeno peixe”, explica o professor Antônio Corrêa, coordenador do projeto, inspirado num trabalho realizado nos anos 70 com o mosquito transmissor da malária.

Ainda de acordo com o professor, o Lebiste é um peixe muito resistente e consegue sobreviver em ambientes poluídos como os igarapés que cortam a capital amazonense.
