Reunião internacional discute Proteção de Cultivares

Representantes de 20 países participam de evento da União Internacional para Proteção das Obtenções Vegetais (UPOV) em Brasília

O Ministério da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento, por meio da Secretaria de Desenvolvimento Agropecuária e Cooperativismo (SDC) e em cooperação com a União Internacional para Proteção das Obtenções Vegetais (UPOV), realiza nesta semana a 13ª. Reunião do Grupo de Trabalho de Técnicas Bioquímicas e Moleculares da UPOV.

O evento acontece em Brasília e conta com cerca de 50 participantes de aproximadamente 20 países. O objetivo principal do encontro é reunir os países membros da União para um debate sobre a harmonização dos documentos, normas e assuntos relativos à proteção de cultivares. Membros da UPOV e convidados locais poderão participar. A Associação Brasileira de Obtentores Vegetais apoia o evento.

A Lei de Proteção de Cultivares existe no Brasil desde 1997. A norma estimula investimentos para obtenção de novas variedades, ao conceder a exclusividade de exploração da cultivar ao pesquisador. A medida visa a impedir a produção e comercialização por terceiros sem autorização.

O Brasil é referência mundial na execução da regra e conta com recursos modernos que garantem a agilidade do processo, como o programa CultivarWeb. O sistema permite o preenchimento dos pedidos de proteção de novas cultivares via internet, bem como o acompanhamento em tempo real da tramitação do processo em cada etapa de análise pelos técnicos do Serviço Nacional de Proteção de Cultivares (SNPC).
